Day 29

Love's Motivation

Ephesians 6:7
Render service with a good attitude, as to the Lord and not to men.

What motivates you to love God? Do you love Him because that's what you are told you should do? Or do you love Him because you desire to love Him?

If the reason you choose to love God is simply because you are told to - you should evaluate your motives. You aren't going to marry a person just because someone tells you to - you marry them because you yourself have chosen to love them. This is what God desires from us when it comes to loving Him as well.

How can we do this?

"Consider the following areas where pleasing Him should be our goal:

Work: Do your work heartily as for the Lord rather than for men. (Colossians 3:23)
Service: Obey those who are your masters on earth, not with external service, as those who merely please men, but with sincerity of heart, fearing the Lord" (Colossians 3:22)
Everything: Work hard "at whatever you do ...knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance. It is the Lord Christ whom you serve. (Colossians 3:23-24)

Dare:
Read Colossians 3:22-24 and live today according to those principles. Remember - when our motive to do things is to please God, we will start thinking less about ourselves.
